I hear this term a lot in game and I'm still a little new to GW, what is ascention?

In short:

Eventually, every PvE character that follows the storyline will reach a point where he becomes something more than a normal human.

In Prophecies, this means they pass great trials that focus the attention of the gods themselves on them.

In Factions, this means they become "closer to the stars".

In Nightfall, they defeat a demon known as the Hunger.

In game terms, this also means the character gains the ability to change their secondary class.

Ascention - Prophecies - Must complete the 3 Crystal Desert City missions in order to face your doppleganger (this is the ascention - be him and you have ascended)

- Factions - complete the city mission of Nahpui Quarter (Closer To The Stars - prove your worth to the Celesital beings - and you are given the ability to see the spirits of the mists.

- Night Fall - I believe you must rescue Koss from his own stupidity. Doing so means you truly are more than just mere human. Lol! I don't think you need to beat The Hunger to ascend. I think the quest is The Great Escape.

It's neither. You ascend after the quest Hunted!.
